We finally got our first real rain yesterday, the monsoon has officially started. It's been very dry here for months and months. We deperately needed the rain - we need more now! People are surprised when I say that Arizona has monsoons, but we do have them every year. When it rains here, watch out... the streets get flooded because we don't usually plan for any moisture and our drainage systems are not set up for floods. Whenever we get the very first rain of the monsoon, the oil on the highways floats to the surface, and the mixture of oil and water makes for very slippery roads. After it's rained a while, the oil gets washed away, and driving becomes a little more safe. Arizonans still don't really know how to drive in the rain, though. There are always accidents when it starts raining... yesterday for instance, a four car pile up.
